Jane Iredale History
Jane Iredale is the president and founder of Iredale Mineral Cosmetics. She was the first to supply the aesthetics industry with a full-line of make-up based on minerals and the first to see the potential of offering physicians a make-up that was good for the skin. She has worked with world-renowned plastic surgeons and dermatologists in the development of her line and lectures all over the world on its benefits.

Jane Iredale Mineral Cosmetics
Before she formed her cosmetics company in 1994, Jane Iredale's background had been in film, theatre and television.

She started as a casting director working in television commercials with models like Lauren Hutton, Jaclyn Smith and Cybill Shepherd and then in film and television with actresses like Susan Sarandon, Glenn Close, and Sarah Jessica Parker. Among many others, she worked with Francis Ford Coppola on The Outsiders, Steven Spielberg on The Colour Purple and all major television networks, as well as the BBC.

She then formed her own production company and produced over fifty programs for PBS and HBO. Two of her feature films were named by TV Guide as the best films of their respective years. One was awarded the coveted George Foster Peabody Award. She also won an Emmy for a film series on which she was the writer.

When she moved from film to theatre she was nominated for a Tony Award for the Broadway musical Wind in the Willows, the show that brought fame to Vicki Lewis and Nathan Lane.

Throughout her career, she has worked with the best make-up artists in the field. She has seen at first hand that true make-up artistry comes not from trying to make a face conform to the latest fashion trends, but from enhancing the wearer's natural beauty and, as a result, allowing her personality to shine.

Her experience in working with people whose careers depended on a clear complexion has allowed her to see how skin disorders and sensitivities not only threaten careers but can also destroy self-confidence. This is what led her to develop a make-up line that could contribute to the lives of the wearer by aiding the health of their skin.

Why Jane Iredale Make-Up is different
The most beautiful cosmetic you can wear is a healthy skin.

That's why everything Jane Iredale develops is a true extension of skin care. Their make-up is not just a refinement of conventional make-up; it's a new technology. It's so effective it is recommended by plastic surgeons, dermatologists and skin care professionals.

Four in One
Their micronized mineral bases are concentrated pigment. (They use no fillers such as talc.) Because of this concentrated pigment, a minimum amount gives unsurpassed coverage and becomes a foundation, powder and concealer all in one. This concentrated pigment also gives high sunscreen protection without the need for synthetic ingredients.

SPF (Sun Protection Factor) and the FDA SPF 20 PurePressed Bases & SPF 20 Amazing Bases
Formulated with titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, the minerals give instant, broad-spectrum, chemical-free sun protection. They also have a Very Water Resistant rating.

Fast, Weightless Coverage
Apply with a brush or a sponge for coverage that it would normally take three products to achieve. The result should look sheer and luminescent and feel weightless.

Non-Comedogenic and Oil-Free
Under a microscope, the mineral crystals look like overlapping fish scales. These crystals form a filter that allows the free exchange of gasses. The minerals are non-comedogenic. They have many testimonials from acne patients claiming improvement in their skins since using their mineral make-up. The only oils they use in their formulas are in products where they want to help condition the skin - such as in their under-eye concealer and lip products.

Minimum Allergy Risk
Allergies and sensitivities are usually caused by substances that cause irritation to the skin. Reactions are particularly common in skins that have been compromised in some fashion through, for example, a weakened immune system, sun damage, chemical peels, laser resurfacing, etc. Substances that most commonly cause these sensitivities are chemical preservatives, chemical dyes (usually labelled as FD&C), perfume and alcohol. Their make-up contains none of these sensitizers. In fact, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are anti-inflammatories and may help calm the skin. All of their products have undergone sensitivity testing in an FDA-approved laboratory with zero sensitivity recorded.

Sensitizers
All of their individual Material Safety Data Sheets of raw materials in their powder bases support that irritation, burning and stinging of the skin are not caused by their ingredients. Further, their processing does not result in any chemical change in the raw materials, so the reaction of the mixed ingredients remains the same as the individual ingredients. They have eliminated from their powders all perfume, chemical dyes and chemical preservatives. These are the top three sensitizers.

FD&C Dyes
When the letters FD&C precede a colour, it means that the colour has been approved by the FDA for use in foods, drugs and cosmetics. When D&C precede the colour, it signifies that it can be used only in drugs or cosmetics. FD&C dyes are derived from petroleum or historically coal tar; some are also synthetic.

Concentrated Pigment (Coverage)
The word "pigment" usually means a coloured or white compound that is insoluble in a solvent. (The word "dye" generally refers to a chemical compound, most often of petroleum origin, which is soluble.) Their pigments are made from micronized minerals only. The reason their powders work so well as a natural-looking beauty make-up and/or a camouflage is because the concentrated pigment not only masks colour but interacts with light to create a soft-focus effect that creates an illusion of perfection. A small amount of the minerals will cover most types of redness including acne, rosacea and erythema (redness).

Adhere
Because of the micronization process their mineral particles undergo, they bind together on application. When applied to a clean, moisturised skin the surface tension this creates overcomes gravity and holds the minerals tightly to the skin. The result is that they resist running, creasing and smearing and will only come off with a cleanser or their Magic Mitt. No special cleanser is required.

Anti-Inflammatory
Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide have anti-inflammatory properties and will help to calm erythema. Zinc oxide is also anti-microbial.

NO PRODUCTS HAVE BEEN TESTED ON ANIMALS

Also Suitable for Children’s Skin
The Jane Iredale line is so safe and beneficial to use that it is recommended by plastic surgeons and dermatologists throughout the world. It is therefore ideal for children’s delicate skin.

  Jane Iredale Make-Up

Small children love to experiment with their mum’s make-up while teenagers are notorious for buying ‘cheap’ make-up which isn’t always the best product for their skin, especially if they suffer from oily or spotty skin. Jane Iredale products can soothe and conceal any spots or acne so is the ideal option for any age group. Jane Iredale's Skin Care Make-up combines the most up-to-date colours with skin-care.
